Founder Greg Costello is a former Naval Officer from landlocked Missouri turned wine guy. He spends his time finding interesting new wines to introduce to the market, and is also a sales representative! You can find him beating the streets along with Dan and Jennifer. When not pulling corks, he can usually be found sailing on the Long Island Sound with his wife Annie.
Right hand man and Sales Manager Dan Dever is a Philly guy who cut his teeth in the restaurant and bar biz, then became a wine salesman for a big company in New Jersey. Desiring to sell wines that he actually enjoys (and helped select), and yearning to get back onto the streets of New York, Dan signed on with Greg and has been an integral part of the success of Costello Wines. Dan is also well connected with local professional rock musicians, and produces an action-packed and unique Rock and Roll show for charity twice a year. He’s an impressive singer to boot!
Marilyn Read is the boss of the office. Her background as a restaurant professional is key to the company’s reputation for excellent customer service. As a bonus, she is also the resident theatrical arts enthusiast. Not only was she a professional theatrical performer, she is currently active in directing and producing for a NY theater company.
Another restaurant pro and soon-to-be-rock-star Aly Wirth joined the team in 2006 to take on logistics and administration. She’s an Atlanta native, though unfortunately there is no southern accent evident. In addition to being the “voice of Costello” when you call, you can check out Rolling Stone Magazine to find out when her band “i like orange” is playing in New York City. She is also famous for being part of the answer to a great trivia question: what is the only University to have graduated 1) a U.S. President, 2) a Super Bowl winning quarterback, and 3) a key employee of Costello Wines? The answer is Miami of Ohio. It’s up to you to guess the President and the quarterback!
With no native New Yorkers in the company, Greg sought to find some local talent. Jennifer Siclare hails from tropical Staten Island. The former Johnnie (does she know Ron Artest?) not only knows her way around The City, but she apparently holds a world record in that she has dined at least once in every restaurant in New York City. Undoubtedly she'll sell Costello wine to all of them.
The Costello family is still growing with the addition of John Boyle in early 2007. Originally from Baltimore where his food and beverage career started, John owned and operated a local bar and lounge in historic Fells Point. From there he took that knowledge and continued a career in F and B within the hospitality industry by managing several restaurants in Connecticut and Manhattan. Unlike at least half of the Costello staff John is not musically talented, but does hold the record for most stringed instruments owned and unable to play.
Is it possible that someone with a name like Ryan Didsbury could speak Italian? One might expect to see Luca Dusi playing bagpipes before believing that. But the newest member of the Costello sales team does in fact seem to get along famously with our Italian producers, and they claim that he is quite fluent in a “southern” sort of way. Ryan is from upstate New York where he played college baseball before entering the restaurant biz. Second baseman turned waiter turned wine sales representative is a typical career path for the staff at Costello Wines!
