Daniele Grion owns this very small and special winery just west of Gorizia in eastern Friuli, in the village called Capriva del Friuli. From this region adjacent to the Slovenian border grow some of the finest white grapes in Italy, and most noteably in the DOC called Collio Goriziana (or simply Collio). The Sauvignon, Pinot Bianco, and Tocai Friulano from Grion are exquisitely fresh and fruity, with delicate fragrance and clear varietal character. The Pinot Grigio is vinified in the natural way of Venezia-Giulia, in that the pinkish color from red grapes interspersed within the Pinot Grigio grape clusters is left unfiltered in the wine, producing a fully extracted rich fruit flavor. The Cabernet Franc, Daniele's only red wine, is full bodied and concentrated with lush blackberry fruit. Many of the wines from Collio are considered to be too pure to benefit from wood ageing, and so is the case with Grion wines. Production is very limited, with only a few hundred cases available for export. If we have some in stock when you call, be sure to order a few cases. You will not be disappointed!
